Onigaming Ontario Works Department
The intent of the Ontario Works (OW) program is to help people in temporary financial need find sustainable full-time employment and achieve self-reliance through the delivery of effective, integrated employment services and financial assistance.
Ontario Works provides two types of assistance:
- Basic Financial Assistance
- Income assistance for basic needs and shelter
- Benefits prescribed by regulations.
- Emergency assistance
- Employment Assistance
- Partnered/linked with local training providers and employers to provide short–term customized training that leads to sustainable employment.
Anyone can apply for assistance, upon completion of application, the Administrator decides on eligibility and provides decision to application in writing. Generally, successful applicants are:
needing assistance while unemployed or part-time employed
raising their grandchildren or has taken on the responsibility of caring for a child.
attending school or training course
in a crisis or emergency situation.
